About This Episode:

It’s time to start living the debt-free life!

First of all, it’s not all about money. Although, getting rid of financial debt is certainly an admirable goal and achievement. You don’t want credit cards, monstrous loans, and monetary debt to hinder you from serving God with all of your heart. Financial debt can wear on you and prevent you from being free spiritually. God wants you to have freedom in Him that stretches past your financial situation and into your daily life, your relationships, your attitude, and your heart.

Jesus has a debt-free mind. He came to this world to convince us to follow Him. Jesus already paid off and forgave us our debts. That allows us as believers to enter the Kingdom of God debt-free! Philippians 2 calls for us have the same attitude and same mind as Jesus. The Word of God is telling us to forgive everyone.

Living Debt-Free

What is the debt-free life? It is the life that cancels debts. In world, being free of debt means you don’t owe anyone. In the Kingdom, being debt-free means no one owes you.

The debt-free life starts with these words: “You don’t owe me anything.” Cancel everyone’s debts. People don’t owe you anything. They don’t owe you an apology, an explanation, or even respect. You are not entitled, offended or wronged.

One spoiler for the debt-free life is the double mind. This might be forgiving some people and not forgiving others or loving some people and hating others. Double-mindedness makes you unstable and unreliable. Unfortunately, it has run rampant and even become accepted among believers today. Double-mindedness is a pattern of the world that has entered the church. It is not a pattern of God. Jesus is dependable, single-minded, and the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Renew Your Mind

Don’t conform to the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind! If you’re renewed, you won’t be double-minded but single-minded in God. Then you will know the will of God. (See Romans 12:2.

Most people are trying to find themselves—but the Bible says we are supposed to lose ourselves!

We should not be asking, Who am I supposed to be? The debt-free person with the renewed mind asks the question that Jesus asks, and that we should ask when we look at others: Who am I supposed to be TO YOU? Who am I supposed to be to God? To my family? To my church?

Renew your mind and start living for God and for other people. Make yourself a gift. The debt-free life in God is waiting for you!

Further Bible Reading:

Matthew 6:12 (NIV)

And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

Philippians 2:5 (NIV)

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.

James 1:5-7 (NIV)

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

Romans 12:2 (NIV)

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
