Seek Him First! If we get ourselves lined up with God, then revival becomes simple.
In Matthew 6:33, Jesus tells us all we need to know: “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Moves of God’s spirit and miracles could increase and abound on earth if only God’s people would prioritize Him. The problem is that people want God but are not willing to put His kingdom and righteousness first, front, and center in their lives.
‘All these things will be added to you,’ Jesus said. We try to benefit off of God while keeping God on the sidelines of our lives—because we also want what the world has to offer us. We’ve been robbed of revival because we are so worried about other things! We’re running after those things, and meanwhile, we miss out on the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
Are we putting our concern in the right place? Are we concerned over the Spirit’s activity, presence of God moving, and the glory of God filling our churches? It’s time to get some fear of God in us! Let’s be concerned about whether God has left the building rather than those earthly things that God has already promised us He will provide. It’s time to return to the Lord, return to our first love (Revelation 2:4). We all know how to seek. It’s just a matter of wanting God enough to seek Him first. When we do that, God supplies our every need, including those other ‘things’. But God goes even further. God replaces the emptiness with the fullness of His presence and glory. We can be active participants in God’s awesome plans and revival in this lifetime if only we will seek God first.
Matthew 6:33 (NIV)
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Revelation 2:4-5 (NIV)
4 “But this I have against you, that you have forsaken your first love. 5 Remember then from where you have fallen. Repent and do the deeds you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your menorah from its place—unless you repent."
Recommit to your pursuit of God today/this week/this month. If fear about money or not having enough is causing you to seek things, work on growing your faith in the Word. If it’s a matter of being distracted by other priorities, block off a regular piece of time in your day to seek God. Our personal pursuit of God is essential to the health of our hearts and spirits, our relationships with God, the advancement of God’s Kingdom, and revival for the church!
