Christians must live for God’s use only! Did you know that holiness is necessary for revival? America today desperately needs a revival of holiness, and the only way for us to get there is to start taking firm stands in how we choose to live our lives.
Hebrews 12:14 calls us to “make every effort to be holy.” However, holiness is often misunderstood, and can be disregarded because it seems so unattainable. Holiness means to be set apart—like the Temple and the items in the Holy of Holies were set apart for God’s use only.
“Without holiness no one will see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14). This is instruction for how we should live now. The scripture is not talking about a far-off second coming of Christ. Without living holy lives today, then we won’t be able to experience God in the here and now. We hinder ourselves when we don’t set ourselves apart from the world and make little effort to be holy.
God is everywhere. But revival means experiencing God at a higher level. We can see the Lord today and in our earthly lifetimes! If the first step is making every effort to be holy, the second is to maintain the revival. Churches and believers so often have short experiences with God, but we can make it last. Sustain the revival, the deep connection with God, by setting yourself apart and staying away from worldly attitudes and behaviors.
TAKE INVENTORY: Drawing these clear boundaries for how you live helps you on the path to holiness.
Hebrews 12:14 (NIV)
