Episode 23: Leaders For The Next Revival

About This Episode:

God needs leaders for the next revival—His next great move! Is that you? In this episode, Steve talks about how you can position yourself and orient your life so that God can choose you.

Orient Your Life

Get disentangled. In 2 Timothy 2:4, Paul compares the mental and physical demands of the lifestyle of a professional soldier to someone who serves God. You must stop getting caught up in worldly affairs. God is calling you to something greater than you are, and He will start disentangling you from addictions, bad habits, wrong thinking, wrong friends, wrong attitudes, etc.

Walk in holiness! Holiness means that you are set apart and distinct. You choose to no longer do certain things. That doesn’t mean those things and the people who do them are bad; they are just no longer for you. The holy life is disentangled and undistracted, set on Jesus.

Live to please Jesus. You live to please your commanding officer, not yourself! People say they live to please Jesus, but are they really living out their lives for Jesus? The problem with living to please yourself is that the self is never pleased. You will never be satisfied apart from God.

Living at the feet of Jesus is not a calling. You choose it.

Get In Position

Choose to sit at the feet of Jesus. Mary and Martha exemplify our choice. Martha was not just anxious about housekeeping; she was entangled in many things and many worries. Her entanglement prevented her from being a leader. On the other hand, Mary took on the position for discipleship, at the feet of Jesus. That was her choice. Sitting at the feet of Jesus is not your calling but a choice you must make.

God will send you where you need to go. Most people will not be sent by God around the world to a remote mission field. In fact, most people are sent by God right back to their own church. That’s where you can be a leader of revival.

So whether you’re meant to be a preacher or an intercessor, you can start making changes and disentangling your life today! Your church, and every church, needs to encounter the presence and power of the living God, so what’s stopping you from being a leader?

Further Bible Reading:

2 Timothy 2:4 (NIV)

No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.

Luke 10:38-42 (NIV)

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.
39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.
40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,
42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Psalm 27:4 (NIV)

One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
