Episode 14: From Fear to Faith – Pt. 1

About This Episode:

God has called each and every one of us to go from fear to faith! Why should we have to be afraid when we know the one true and living God?

In this episode, we learn that fear:

  • cuts us off from God.
  • is a poor decision maker.
  • gets in the way of healing and peace.
  • is fed by holding onto our pasts.
  • torments.
  • fights us and our faith.

And, that fear hinders us, both personally and spiritually, in our relationships with God. We all must deal with fear; it is a symptom of the sin that entered the world at the time of the Fall in the Garden of Eden. In the New Testament, the disciples experienced fear (e.g. Jesus calming the storm or Jesus walking on water). Today, even some church leaders have hesitated to embrace a fresh move of God because of fear: fear of change, finances, decreased church attendance, division, etc. We must get out of fear mode!

Fear is a poor decision maker.

Steve Gray

But how do we get out of fear mode? We make changes. If you’ve ever walked in fear, you can walk in faith! Don’t listen to fear or the circumstances or the past. Let faith come by hearing the Word of God.

When we allow faith to come and stop giving fear the power to fight our faith, peace comes. Healing comes. We make good decisions and godly decisions. God is not cut off from us. God has the ability to do bigger things in our lives. It’s time to run to God and run for revival, but first, we must choose to move from fear to faith!

Luke 8:40-56 (NIV)

40 Now when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him.
41 Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house
42 because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying. As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him.
43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her.
44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.”
47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed.
48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”
49 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”
50 Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”
51 When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James, and the child’s father and mother.
52 Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.”
53 They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead.
54 But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!”
55 Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat.
56 Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.

Romans 10:17 (NKJV)

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Questions:
  • Do you let yourself enter fear mode?
  • In what areas or circumstances of your life do you find yourself to be especially susceptible to the fear response?
  • What will you do from now on to activate your faith instead of fear?

Episode Notes:

  • 7:32 Fear is a poor decision maker.
  • 7:48 Imagine what your life would be like if you lived a life without fear, if fear was not making any decisions for you—other than the fear of the Lord. What freedom we would have!
  • 10:00 Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. Don’t let fear talk to you anymore.
  • 10:18 Faith comes, but fear fights.
  • 13:00 God’s really trying to do much bigger things than you let Him, but He’s always having to deal with [your] fear. You haven’t done the things that make faith come, and you haven’t done anything to get rid of fear.
  • 15:00 There wasn’t any fear before sin entered the world. Sin is in the world, and fear is part of its symptom.
  • 18:32 If you’ve ever walked in fear, you can walk in faith! It’s the same thing. It’s decision to change what you listen to and what you respond to.
