About ThIs Episode:

We need a foundation for revival. You don’t want to be unprepared for a move of God when He comes to you, your church, or your town. Steve teaches on the importance of knowing God’s absolutes and establishing absolutes for your own life.

God has absolutes. We live in a world and era of grays, and the devil comes with questions. Genesis 3 illustrates how the devil targeted Eve: “Did God really say…?” Eve could have shut down the devil by confirming God’s absolute, that she was not supposed to eat the fruit. The problem was that Eve was not confident in God’s absolute. The devil brought out hidden details. In verse 5, the devil tells Eve that God didn’t want her to eat the fruit because then she would be like God, and is able to ensnare Eve because she did not have a solid foundation.

God’s Foundational Absolutes
  1. Psalm 136:1 – God is good.
  2. Psalm 86:15 – God is love.
  3. I John 1:9 – God forgives.
  4. Ephesians 2:4 – God is merciful.
  5. James 1:5 – God is generous.

Capture these absolutes. Make them the foundation of your faith. No matter what it looks like, what you feel, what is going on in the world and in your life, God is those absolutes. He does not change.

“Get your foundation. Then you don’t need all the details.”

The devil starts trying to hit you with details—to make you doubt God and halt your work for the Kingdom. You tell the devil that you don’t need the details and you know who God is.

The Devil’s In The Details

In Matthew 21, Jesus sent disciples to find a colt, take it, and bring it to Jesus. If anyone asked the disciples what they were doing, they were supposed to say that the Lord needed it. Those disciples could have gotten caught up in the details, such as fear of being arrested for theft. The disciples did not do that; they did not question or argue with Jesus but obeyed. Oftentimes, we do not see that God is working on the other end. In this situation, God might have gone ahead and spoken to the owner of colt. God works on both ends, and God doesn’t need to give us the details.

Once you have a foundation, your attitude and mindset is that you do not need all the details. The foundation is what God is and what He always will be. Also, once you have a solid foundation in God, He is able to trust you with more of the details because you have already trusted and will continue to trust His absolutes.

So start with your foundation, then set your own absolutes. Establish things you always do (go to church, tithe, love the Word of God) and things you never do (doubt God, neglect prayer, talk bad about others). Choosing to build on God’s foundation will make you stable and predictable, just like Him.

Further Bible Reading:

Genesis 3:1-6 (NIV)

Jesus Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,
but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.
“For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

Matthew 21:1-3 (NIV)

As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples,
saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me.
If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”

Matthew 21: 6-7 (NIV)

The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them.
They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on.
